By January 31, AG Eric Holder will announce his decision as to whether to allow the death penalty to be a possible outcome of the Tsarnaev trial. Today I sent him a CD of this video and this letter:
Attorney General Eric Holder
U.S. Dept of Justice
950 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20530-0001
Dear Mr. Holder,
I am sending you a short (less then four minutes long) CD with a slide show containing signs contributed by people all over the United States, and the world.
We would like you to see that there is much support for a fair trial for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, because we have been studiously following and discussing this case, and feel it it very important for our country and world, as well as for the man, Tsarnaev.
Mr. Holder, we in America have been a beacon on the hill of justice and fairness to the world, but now, we are sinking. People watch these terrorism cases being handled in such a way that our beloved Constitution is thrown by the wayside in the name of safety. Terrorism prosecutions now criminalize speech, thought, and religion.
We supporters of Tsarnaev do not want a terrorist set free. By and large we believe he is innocent. But at the very least, we believe he deserves a fair trial, and we feel he will not get it in the current climate of hysteria, bigotry, and media smearing of him and his entire family.
That is why we are pleading with you to take a few minutes to look at this. These are mostly young people, but some of us are old. We spend most of our spare time studying this case and trying to counter the toxic messages put forward in the media against this man who has not even had one day in court.
